Sedation
Anaesthetic Glossary
AKA: “twilight sleep”
Use of a one or many of a variety of medications that reduce pain and anxiety. These drugs make patients sleepy, calm, restful and forgetful. Sedation is often used before general anaesthesia or along with local anaesthesia.
During sedation or total intravenous anaesthesia, your vital signs such as Blood Pressure and Electrocardiograph will be closely monitored, and you will receive supplemental Oxygen either via nasal prongs or a "Hudson" face mask.
